A unit from the US Geological Survey. Both my kids LOVED this. It uses a big ful-color poster and the idea of a hot air balloon to teach the idea of what a map is, as well as concepts you might not think of introducing to younger children, such as map grids and legends, but this really makes it simple for them to understand. My kids loved this so much I almost decided to hang on to it out of nostalgia, LOL!

BTW, if anyone else is interested in this curriculum, it is now available online at interactive2.usgs.gov/learningweb/teachers. You have to print out the poster onto something like 15 sheets of paper, but it's worth the effort, IMO. Karen
